Carp Edema Virus Disease (CEVD) or "koi sleepy disease" was first confirmed in Serbia in 2017. During the period from 2017 to 2021, a large number of cases of this viral disease were observed and confirmed in carp ponds throughout our country, where the disease caused large economic losses to domestic producers of carp fish species, and thus affected the market price of consumer carp. The sleeping carp virus is successfully diagnosed by molecular technique (real time PCR). Since fish can remain carriers of this pathogen, it is necessary to apply appropriate biosecurity measures in carp ponds where the occurrence of this disease has been proven. In order to prevent further spread of the disease, it is very important to introduce testing for carp (CEVD) in carp trade, as well as the inclusion of this disease in the program of regular annual surveillance and control of fish diseases, which defines the rulebook on animal health measures in Republic of Serbia.en_US
