Accumulation of heavy metals as persistent and toxic substances in sediment can cause potential ecological risks. The characteristics of sediment and examination of level of metal content can determine whether its remediation is necessary. As potential immobilization medium for the treatment of solidification/stabilization of sediment of Great Bačka Canal ash generated from burning biomass after carbonization was used. This paper presents preliminary results of DIN 3841-4 S4 and TCLP tests of leaching. The concentrations of Cu and Ni in eluates from the examined samples were monitored with the aim to make risk assessment of newly formed waste for human health and the environment.en_US
