| dcterms.abstract | American foulbrood (AFB) is the most important contagious disease of bacterial
origin of bee communities on the territory of the Republic of Serbia. This disease
causes a vast economic damage to beekeeping in our country. Due to the nature of the
disease, its method of transmission, it can be found on the whole territory of our
country. According to the number of reported cases, this disease is the second on the
list of officially confirmed cases of all animal diseases mandatory for notification in
the Republic of Serbia. It is also known that a great number of positive cases is also
unregistered and that the actual number is much larger. It poses a long-term threat to
persistence of this kind of infection.
This paper analyses the official data of Veterinary Directorate of the Ministry of
Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Serbia between 2005
and 2018. During this fourteen-year period, the total of 1252 cases of AFB was
reported on the territory of the Republic of Serbia. An average annual number of
reports of this disease in bees was 86, while the largest number of reported cases was
in 2007-the total of 155. The lowest number of registered positive cases of AFB during
the analysed period was in 2005 and 2016 with 48 registered cases. The largest
number of registered cases was on the territory on Zlatibor District (194 cases, i.e.15,5
%), while the lowest number was registered on North Banat District (1 registered case,
i.e.0,08%). In 2018, Veterinary Directorate issued the Plan of Implementation of
Active Surveillance of AFB) which meant active monitoring of all 92 beeyards where
this contagious disease was detected during 2017. During the surveillance, the total of
78 positive cases of ABF was detected, on the territory of 21 municipalities (19
municipalities and 2 municipalities on the territory of the city of Belgrade) where the
reoccurrence was the disease was detected as well. This fact means that it is necessary
to revise the existing measured in the case of occurrence of AFB on the territory of
the Republic of Serbia. | En |
