Abstract
This paper deals with the prevalence, significance and therapy of cervicitis, cervical abscesses, paracervicitis, cervical sclerosis and adnexitis of cow‘s reproductive organs. Diagnoses of the enlisted problems are frequently overlooked in the routine clinical practice because veterinarians don‘t pay enough attention on them and because of the poor diagnostical tools leading to the wrong therapy resulting in the increased herd‘s culling rate. Prevalence of these diseases is mainly from 10-15 % but may be even 60 % in some extreme cases, while proportion among culled cows can be up to the 10 %. This problem was especially abundant in the past and in large herds, where uterine lavage with agressive solutions (desinfectants) during early puerperium was introduced in the routine practice. Nowadays, it is a mainly a problem of the poor heifer‘s management and early inseminations, unpatiency during calving (or unprofessional assistance) or even urovagina in some rare cases. Therapy is based on the paracervical „neurotherapy“ and/or local infusion of antibiotics or mild solutions of antiseptics (povidon iodide, hlorhexidine or Lotagen) along the cervical axis („cervical flushing“). Persistant therapy (2-5 applications every 7-10 days) has a positive outome: conceptiom rate is only 10 % lower when compared to healthy animals, open days period is 70-80 days longer (appr. 200 days), with AI index 4 if the problem is recognised on time and if the therapy is applied timely.
